The next project had 2 major hits in the trance community, 2 big tracks that defined early trance. So which track am I talking about? It&#8217;s ofcourse <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cygnus_X_(music_group)\" title=\"Cygnus X\" target=\"_blank\">Cygnus X<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-The-Orange-Theme-The-Remixes\/master\/1880\" title=\"The Orange Theme\" target=\"_blank\">The Orange Theme<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Bervoets+%26+De+Goeij?anv=Piet+Bervoets+%26+Benno+de+Goeij\" title=\"Bervoets &#038; De Goeij\" target=\"_blank\">Bervoets &#038; De Goeij<\/a> Remix).<\/p>\n<p>Cygnus X started out as a project with German producers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Ralf+Hildenbeutel\" title=\"Ralf Hildenbeutel\" target=\"_blank\">Ralf Hildenbeutel<\/a>\u00a0&#038;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Matthias+Hoffmann\" title=\"Matthias Hoffmann\" target=\"_blank\">Matthias Hoffmann<\/a> in early 1993.<\/p>\n<p>Matthias Hoffmann started out as an studio guitarist for artists like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Quincy+Jones\" title=\"Quincy Jones\" target=\"_blank\">Quincy Jones<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Sheila+E.\" title=\"Sheila E\" target=\"_blank\">Sheila E<\/a> but changed his musical interest after listening to dancemusic. Matthias started releasing his own material from 1988 and onwards. <\/p>\n<p>He was also one of the founders of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Eye+Q+Records\" title=\"Eye Q\" target=\"_blank\">Eye Q<\/a>-label together with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Sven+V%C3%A4th\" title=\"Sven V\u00e4th\" target=\"_blank\">Sven V\u00e4th<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Heinz+Roth\" title=\"Heinz Roth\" target=\"_blank\">Heinz Roth<\/a>. It was also around that time that he met Ralf Hildenbeutel for the first time as Ralf worked as a studio partner for Sven V\u00e4th.<\/p>\n<p>The Cygnus X-project took shape in early 1993 and released their first single, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Superstring\/master\/1861\" title=\"Superstring\" target=\"_blank\">Superstring<\/a> on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Eye+Q+Records\" title=\"Eye Q Records\" target=\"_blank\">Eye Q Records<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first releases were an EP with Superstring and Positron and later in 1994 you saw remixes from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Oliver+Lieb\" title=\"Oliver Lieb\" target=\"_blank\">Oliver Lieb<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Cygnus+X\" title=\"Cygnus X\" target=\"_blank\">Cygnus X<\/a> themselves. The big breakthrough for Superstring came in 2000 when <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rank_1\" title=\"Rank 1\" target=\"_blank\">Rank 1<\/a> made their famous remix. Rank 1&#8217;s remix got them a top 40 hit and peaked at no 33 in the UK chart. <\/p>\n<p>Worth noticing is that Superstring (Rank 1 Remix) was the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sensation_(event)#The_Anthems\" title=\"Sensation 2000\" target=\"_blank\">Sensation 2000<\/a> Theme.<\/p>\n<p>What I really like is that Rank 1 made the track warmer than the original which is abit cold and dry. Superstring was released on a total of 26 releases and licensed to labels like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Xtravaganza+Recordings\" title=\"Xtravaganza\" target=\"_blank\">Xtravaganza<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Bonzai+Classics\" title=\"Bonzai\" target=\"_blank\">Bonzai<\/a> just to name a few.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/?attachment_id=5699\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5699\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/cygnysx-orangetheme.jpg\" alt=\"cygnysx-orangetheme\" width=\"680\" height=\"380\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5699\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/cygnysx-orangetheme.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/cygnysx-orangetheme-380x212.jpg 380w, https:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/cygnysx-orangetheme-340x190.jpg 340w, https:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/cygnysx-orangetheme-200x112.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their next big track came in 1994 with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-The-Orange-Theme\/master\/1880\" title=\"The Orange Theme\" target=\"_blank\">The Orange Theme<\/a>. By this time <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Ralf+Hildenbeutel\" title=\"Ralf\" target=\"_blank\">Ralf<\/a> has already left the project.<\/p>\n<p>The Orange Theme was based on the thememusic to the movie <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0066921\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\" title=\"A Clockwork Orange\" target=\"_blank\">A Clockwork Orange<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Walter_Carlos\" title=\"Walther Carlos\" target=\"_blank\">Walther Carlos<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The original track was pretty huge but it was first in 1999 with remixes by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ferry_Corsten\" title=\"Ferry Corsten\" target=\"_blank\">Ferry Corsten<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Solarstone\" title=\"Solarstone\" target=\"_blank\">Solarstone<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rank_1\" title=\"Bervoets &#038; De Goeij (a.k.a Rank 1)\" target=\"_blank\">Bervoets &#038; De Goeij (a.k.a Rank 1)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Martin_Freeland\" title=\"Man With No Name\" target=\"_blank\">Man With No Name<\/a> that the major breakthrough came. <\/p>\n<p>The new remixes also gave Cygnus X another chart position, this time at no 43 in the UK chart. I just love how the track builds and builds and then a major breakdown. Major Goosebumps!<\/p>\n<p>The Orange Theme has since been remixed by many more and reworked by artists like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Deadmau5-Clockwork\/master\/97879\" title=\"Deadmau5\" target=\"_blank\">Deadmau5<\/a><br \/>\n.<br \/>\nCygnus X version has been released on a total of 31 versions and licensed labels like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Hooj+Choons\" title=\"Hooj\" target=\"_blank\">Hooj<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/ID%26T+Music+BV\" title=\"ID&#038;T \" target=\"_blank\">ID&#038;T <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Bonzai+Classics\" title=\"Bonzai\" target=\"_blank\">Bonzai<\/a> just to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>In 1995 Cygnus X released their only album, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Hypermetrical\/master\/1921\" title=\"Hypermetrical\" target=\"_blank\">Hypermetrical<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>A fun fact is that the album doesn&#8217;t contain Superstring at all. The only track produced with Ralf on the record is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Turn-Around\/master\/1895\" title=\"Turn Around\" target=\"_blank\">Turn Around<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The album also spawned a few singles like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Kinderlied\/master\/1951\" title=\"Kinderlied\" target=\"_blank\">Kinderlied<\/a> (1995), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Turn-Around\/master\/1895\" title=\"Turn Around\" target=\"_blank\">Turn Around<\/a> (1995), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Synchronism\/release\/142604\" title=\"Synchronism\" target=\"_blank\">Synchronism<\/a> (1995), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Hypermetrical-Remixes\/master\/90287\" title=\"Hypermetrical\" target=\"_blank\">Hypermetrical<\/a> (1996) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Positron\/master\/90291\" title=\"Positron\" target=\"_blank\">Positron<\/a> (2002) but none of the were the range of the ever so popular Superstring and The Orange Theme. <\/p>\n<p>A cool fact is that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Positron\/master\/90291\" title=\"Positron\" target=\"_blank\">Positron<\/a> became the anthem for <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trance_Energy\" title=\"Trance Energy\" target=\"_blank\">Trance Energy<\/a> 2003<\/p>\n<p>Cygnus X also released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Cygnus-X-Collected-Works\/release\/135176\" title=\"Collected Works\" target=\"_blank\">Collected Works<\/a> in 2003 with all the hits to date (including Superstring) plus remixes from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ferry_Corsten\" title=\"Ferry Corsten\" target=\"_blank\">Ferry Corsten<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Armin_Van_Buuren\" title=\"Armin Van Buuren\" target=\"_blank\">Armin Van Buuren<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marco_V\" title=\"Marco V\" target=\"_blank\">Marco V<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rank_1\" title=\"Rank 1\" target=\"_blank\">Rank 1<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Future+Breeze\" title=\"Future Breeze\" target=\"_blank\">Future Breeze<\/a> just to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>For me, the 1999\/2000-remixes of Superstring and The Orange Theme were 2 tracks that defined trance when I first started listening on a major scale. I was more into house at the end of the 90&#8217;s. What fascinated me back then was the major effort the remixes put on their work.
