They only released 2 tracks but both of them became really huge. So which track am I talking about? Jones\" target=\"_blank\">Simmonds &#038; Jones<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Space+Brothers%2C+The\" title=\"The\u00a0Space Brothers\" target=\"_blank\">The\u00a0Space Brothers<\/a> just to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Space_Brothers\" title=\"Ascension\" target=\"_blank\">Ascension<\/a>-project was started in 1997 and their first track, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Ascension-Someone\/master\/33769\" title=\"Someone\" target=\"_blank\">Someone<\/a> (with vocalist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Joanna+Law\" title=\"Joanna Law\" target=\"_blank\">Joanna Law<\/a>) was signed to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Oakenfold\" title=\"Paul Oakenfold\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Oakenfold<\/a>&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Perfecto\" title=\"Perfecto\" target=\"_blank\">Perfecto<\/a>-label although Rick and Stephen had planned to release all their various releases under <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Judge_Jules\" title=\"Judge Jules\" target=\"_blank\">Judge Jules<\/a>&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Manifesto\" title=\"Manifesto\" target=\"_blank\">Manifesto<\/a>-label.<\/p>\n<p>The initial 1997-release contained Original Vocal Mix together with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Slacker\" title=\"Slacker\" target=\"_blank\">Slacker<\/a>&#8217;s Rolling Mix and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Slacker\" title=\"Slacker\" target=\"_blank\">Slacker<\/a>&#8217;s Elevation Vocal and eventually a few new remixes appeared from producers like <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Thrillseekers\" title=\"The Thrillseekers\" target=\"_blank\">The Thrillseekers<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Signum_(musical_group)\" title=\"Signum\" target=\"_blank\">Signum<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Space_Brothers\" title=\"The Space Brothers\" target=\"_blank\">Space Brothers<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Binary_Finary\" title=\"Binary Finary\" target=\"_blank\">Binary Finary<\/a> &#038; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Robert+Vadney\" title=\"Robert Vadney\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Vadney<\/a> just to name a few. <\/p>\n<p>What I really like is the soothing vocals by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Joanna+Law\" title=\"Joanna\" target=\"_blank\">Joanna<\/a> which gives the track that special feeling. The 1997 original vocal was long one of my favourite until the release of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Thrillseekers%2C+The\" title=\"The Thrillseekers\" target=\"_blank\"> The Thrillseekers<\/a> remix in 2000. Was quite an experience to see The Thrillseekers play this in his classic set on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=twU3go97UNg\" title=\"Luminosity Beach Festival\" target=\"_blank\">Luminosity Beach Festival<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n<p>Lately though, i&#8217;ve been listening to the fresher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Signum\" title=\"Signum\" target=\"_blank\">Signum<\/a> Remix as I really love what they did with the darker and fuller strings in the background. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Ascension-Someone\/master\/33769\" title=\"Someone\" target=\"_blank\">Someone<\/a> has been released on a total of 16 different releases whereof the latest was in 2011 on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Armada+Digital\" title=\"Armada Digital\" target=\"_blank\">Armada Digital<\/a> with fresh remixes by Signum and Robert Vadney.<\/p>\n<p>Ascension&#8217;s second track, the 2002 release, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Ascension-For-A-Lifetime\/master\/33760\" title=\"For A Lifetime\" target=\"_blank\">For A Lifetime<\/a> (with vocalist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Erin+Lordan\" title=\"Erin Lordan\" target=\"_blank\">Erin Lordan<\/a>) was signed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Alex+Gold\" title=\"Alex Gold\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Gold<\/a>&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Xtravaganza+Recordings\" title=\"Xtravaganza\" target=\"_blank\">Xtravaganza<\/a>-label and came with a bunch of interesting remixes by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oceanlab\" title=\"Oceanlab\" target=\"_blank\">Oceanlab<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Lustral\" title=\"Lustral\" target=\"_blank\">Lustral<\/a> and Alex Gold vs <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Coast+2+Coast\" title=\"Coast 2 Coast\" target=\"_blank\">Coast 2 Coast<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The release was later re-released in 2011 on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/label\/Armada+Digital\" title=\"Armada Digital\" target=\"_blank\">Armada Digital<\/a> with fresh remixes by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roger_Shah\" title=\"Roger Shah\" target=\"_blank\">Roger Shah<\/a> and a brand new chillout-version.<\/p>\n<p>So what happened to Rick and Stephen since the Ascension-project ended? Well, they founded the online music store, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.audiojelly.com\/\" title=\"Audiojelly\" target=\"_blank\">Audiojelly<\/a> where you can find all their tracks under various aliases together with many of your favourite producers.<\/p>\n<p>Most of their aliases has been droped since 2005 but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Lustral\" title=\"Lustral\" target=\"_blank\">Lustral<\/a> is still going strong and released a single last year.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to Ascension&#8217;s music, I believe that the track Someone is one of those early trance-tracks that people recognize and have fond memories of so my guess is that will live on in most of the older clubbers memories. <\/p>\n<p>A cool thing that i&#8217;ve seen lately is that many of the older dj&#8217;s have been doing loads of classics sets which both the older and the newer audience likes. And if one track gets stuck in the newcomers brains, the DJ&#8217;s have definitely done their job. There are so many awesome classical tracks out there that will be forgotten if no one listens to them.
