Their biggest success was known under 2 names, the initial name and the soundtrack-name. So which track am I thinking of? It&#8217;s ofcourse <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Watergate\" title=\"Watergate\" target=\"_blank\">Watergate<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Watergate-Heart-Of-Asia\/master\/104443\" title=\"Heart Of Asia\" target=\"_blank\">Heart Of Asia<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/DJ+Quicksilver\" title=\"DJ Quicksilver\" target=\"_blank\">DJ Quicksilver<\/a> Remix)<\/p>\n<p>Watergate is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/David+Haid\" title=\"David Haid\" target=\"_blank\">David Haid<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Orhan+Terzi\" title=\"Orhan Terzi\" target=\"_blank\">Orhan Terzi<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Tommaso+De+Donatis\" title=\"Tommaso De Donatis\" target=\"_blank\">Tommaso De Donatis<\/a>. Orhan is most known as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/DJ+Quicksilver\" title=\"DJ Quicksilver\" target=\"_blank\">DJ Quicksilver<\/a> and Tommaso is the producer behind DJ Quicksilver and also known under some additional 25 aliases\/projects.<\/p>\n<p>The Watergate-project was started in 1998 and heir first release, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Watergate-Mull-Of-Kintyre\/master\/104440\" title=\"The Battle\" target=\"_blank\">The Battle<\/a> (also known as Mull Of Kintyre) contains a bagpipe-sample inspired from the hit single <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mull_of_Kintyre_(song)\" title=\"Mull Of Kintyre\" target=\"_blank\">Mull Of Kintyre<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wings_(band)\" title=\"The Wings\" target=\"_blank\">The Wings<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Beatles\" title=\"ex-Beatle\" target=\"_blank\">ex-Beatle<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_McCartney\" title=\"Paul McCartney\" target=\"_blank\">Paul McCartney<\/a>&#8217;s old band). The track peaked at no 20 in the German singles chart.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/?attachment_id=5382\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5382\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/watergateheartofasia.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"watergateheartofasia\" width=\"680\" height=\"380\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/watergateheartofasia.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/watergateheartofasia-380x212.jpg 380w, https:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/watergateheartofasia-340x190.jpg 340w, https:\/\/www.bejbi.se\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/watergateheartofasia-200x112.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Their second release, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Watergate-Watergate-EP-Maid-Of-Orleans-The-Battle-II\/master\/104446\" title=\"Watergate EP\" target=\"_blank\">Watergate EP<\/a> contained 3 new tracks. Maid Of Orleans (The Battle 2), Chi Mai and Fire &#8217;n Spice. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Orchestral-Manoeuvres-In-The-Dark-Maid-Of-Orleans-The-Waltz-Joan-Of-Arc\/master\/65686\" title=\"Maid Of Orleans\" target=\"_blank\">Maid Of Orleans<\/a> was a cover of an old OMD-track with the same name and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Ennio-Morricone-Chi-Mai\/master\/68824\" title=\"Chi Mai\" target=\"_blank\">Chi Mai<\/a> was a cover of Ennio Morricone&#8217;s track with the same name<\/p>\n<p>But it was with the third release, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Watergate-Heart-Of-Asia\/master\/104443\" title=\"Heart Of Asia\" target=\"_blank\">Heart Of Asia<\/a> that the big success came. The track was heavily inspired by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Ryuichi+Sakamoto\" title=\"Ryuichi Sakamoto\" target=\"_blank\">Ryuichi Sakamoto<\/a>s 1983 track  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Ryuichi-Sakamoto-Merry-Christmas-Mr-Lawrence\/master\/219441\" title=\"Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence\" target=\"_blank\">Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence<\/a> which was on the soundtrack to the movie with the same name (starring <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Bowie\" title=\"David Bowie\" target=\"_blank\">David Bowie<\/a> and Ryuichi Sakamoto amongst others). <\/p>\n<p>The track came with remixes by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DJ_Quicksilver\" title=\"DJ Quicksilver\" target=\"_blank\">Dj Quicksilver<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Hemstock+%26+Jennings\" title=\"Hemstock &#038; Jennings\" target=\"_blank\">Hemstock &#038; Jennings<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Des+Mitchell\" title=\"Des Mitchell\" target=\"_blank\">Des Mitchell<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Holden_(producer)\" title=\"James Holden\" target=\"_blank\">James Holden<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Rising+Sun\" title=\"Rising Sun\" target=\"_blank\">Rising Sun<\/a> &#038; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Astro+%286%29\" title=\"Astro\" target=\"_blank\">Astro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Heart Of Asia peaked at no 3 in the UK singles chart. It was later re-released as Merry Christmas Mr Laurence (Heart Of Asia) in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>It was later covered by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Jamaster+A\" title=\"Jamaster A\" target=\"_blank\">Jamaster A<\/a> as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Jamaster-A-Merry-Christmas-Mr-Lawrence-Heart-Of-Asia\/master\/165144\" title=\"Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence\" target=\"_blank\">Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Worth noticing is that there was a bootleg floating around called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0ZCOgwz_l80\" title=\"Waiting For Tonight In Asia\" target=\"_blank\">Waiting For Tonight In Asia<\/a> mashed with Jennifer Lopez&#8217;s popular track, Waiting For Tonight. The bootleg was done by a guy called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/mixmachine?feature=watch\" title=\"Mixmachine\" target=\"_blank\">Mixmachine<\/a>. He did some nice mashups back in the days.<\/p>\n<p>There was even an album, the 1999 title <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Watergate-The-World-Of\/master\/314574\" title=\"The World Of...\" target=\"_blank\">The World Of&#8230;<\/a> which contained 13 tracks including the singles mentioned above.<\/p>\n<p>The last release from Watergate was the 2002 collaboration with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Mythos\" title=\"Mythos\" target=\"_blank\">Mythos<\/a> (of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Mythos+%27N+DJ+Cosmo\" title=\"Mythos 'N DJ Cosmo\" target=\"_blank\">Mythos &#8217;N Dj Cosmo<\/a>-fame) called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/Mythos-N-Watergate-Neverending-Dream\/master\/104459\" title=\"A Neverending Dream\" target=\"_blank\">A Neverending Dream<\/a> which was a vocal track. The track got pretty catchy lyrics and came with a pretty hard remix by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/Hennes+%26+Cold\" title=\"Hennes &#038; Cold\" target=\"_blank\">Hennes &#038; Cold<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So what can be said about Watergate which I havent mentioned above? Well, not much I guess. When I first heard Heart Of Asia, i was blown away with the track, especially in the breakdown.
